Doctors in Emirates Living area
 

Hi,
We've moved into the Lakes, and I'd like to get sorted with a doctor, ideally a good family doctor. Can anyone recommend a clinic in the area? I've passed by the Meadows clinic but know nothing about it, and other than that wouldn't have a clue where to find a doctor.

Is registering with a doctor the same as most other things in Dubai, where you join a long waiting list and wait for a place to come free? We have BUPA Gold through work, does this help with GP expenses or just with consultant/hospital expense.

you don't need to register, you just turn up when you need one, we have used the Trinity Clinic on the Springs, it is next to the small Choithrams.

forget that, the clinic is called the Rosary not Trinity. #blonde

Thanks for that, Blue Cat. Not sure if I like the not registering bit. It's good to be able to walk in for an appointment for sure, but for the children I'd like to see someone consistently who I know has a good manner - and that I trust them if they tell me that the one-year-old's 41 degree fever and floppiness is nothing to worry about...

try KidsFirst on the Al Wasl Road, the Paediatrician at The Rosary is a bit odd

not in the immediate area but a great bunch who i trust (our gp for years). a lot of friends rate their paediatricians highly

Thanks for the two recommendations.

How does it work, by the way, when you know you need to see a specialist (e.g. a dermatologist) - can you book directly with someone, or have to be referred via a GP?

I have to say, I've had the worst experiences with medical doctors here, If you don't have medical insurance, then paying 350 AED is worthless, I would pay even more if the level of quality exists, but so far haven't been able to find a decent medical doctor

Cooper Health Clinic on Al Wasl Road - highly recommended - They maintain your file as you would expect in the UK with your local GP and the paedetricians are good compared to what I experienced in the UK.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. Looks like I'll have to head to Al Wasl area, shame there's nothing good around Emirates. Hopefully we'll avoid the sick child in the middle of the night scenario.

FYI Dr Khan (American Paedetrician) at Cooper lives in Meadows 2 and is available for call outs through the night if need be.
