Distance Learning in the ME
 

Can anyone recommend any good (and not crazy-expensive) ditance learning universities?
I have time on my hands and want to study a post-grad course.
Univ Liver-pool want 20kUSD !! A bit rich for me.
What about the Open University?

MBA from Uni of Leicester is approx £8K IIRC (and it is accredited)....

I'm doing an MA come September from Staffordshire Uni... nowhere near the amount you stated. Entirely online, no attendance required.

Hmm... and if you have a UK address, use that, 'cos you won't be billed as an international student. Quite why international students on a no-attendance course are billed nearly double, I have no idea!

Possibly.... probably. However, students don't pay taxes...

My point was that the service is exactly the same and, especially in an online course, the overheads are minimal and non-geographic. Heck, the lecturer marking the papers could be doing so from the side of a pool in Honolulu for all it matters!

It is because the course is Government subsidised - can you imagine the row if Foreign students were charged the same as home students? The resource has a finite capacity too in spite of being delivered through the internet and that requires a differential pricing to favour UK students.

University of Portsmouth is offering fantastic degrees.
Fees defer from one course to another. however, if you are past student of it, they have big discounts. so please contact them for further details or you can visit www.port.ac.uk for further details.

I am doing a BA in Humanities via the Open University and have found the course and the structure to be brilliant. I would definitely recommend them as they have been doing the distance learning thing for a long time now, they are well set up for it, and the costs are reasonable.

The Open University are quite good, one of my collegue chums is now a Phd working for them and says good things. The choice of courses might be limited though over here - that said whatever you do with them will be internationally recognised...

Thank you everyone. It's been a great help.
I am a chartered engineer of 55 and have a lot of experience in Project Management so I wanted to do a MSc in PM rather than an MBA (which has a bad name) Open University MSc looked good but 2.5 years v Liverpool 2y and over £12k which is a bit much to satisfy a dream. I doubt it would improve my employability, it's just that I have always wanted to it and now I'm in the sand I should have more time (?) I will keep looking at all the Universities you've mentioned but the internet truly is the World Wide Wait here in KSA.

The missus did a masters through Kings College, London. About £3K a year, she did it part time.

Dirt cheap that. North Eastern in Boston wanted $25K a year just for tuition.

i don't think the MBA has a bad name, but you need to go for an accredited program rather than some random university/institution able to put together a so-called MBA program. what you'll find is that (most of) the non-accredited programs don't follow the guidelines for how to structure the degree and therefore their degrees are not as good.

for example some of the cheaper distance learning MBA's don't require you to do a thesis..:eek: obviously these degrees will be a hell of a lot easier to get than a proper one..
