Dibba to Khasab

People,

Is it possible to go from Dibba (via one of the 2 border controls there) to Khasab and then back down the west coast to RAK?

I know you can get back, but can you get there via Dibba, if so, does anyone have gps waypoints i can use?

Thanks in advance

Edited to add

On google earth it looks like there's a route through wadi Khab Shammsi and wadi bih, is that easy in a prado???

No as far as I am aware, it has never been possible to cross at the Omani post unless a local. Then last year I think they closed the UAE crossing point to all but GCC nationals. On my last visit only managed to get across from Wadi Bih to RAK after a friendly UAE guard turned a blind eye.
Would highly recommend driving the route thoough from Kassab to the Border, but you then have to return the same way, but it sure is a spectacular mountain route.

Thanks AU, do you mean at the border points in Dibba - the two that are near each other, one on the coast the other a kilometre or so inland? As I went through there last year, so that i could access the harbour? Or is there another one that i don't know about?
Thanks

No, its the border/check posts adjacent to each other about half way between RAK and DIbba, ie some 50 kms out of Dibba.

OK, the ones in Dibba town DO/did allow you both ways, even without a passport! UAE driving licence was enough. Handy to know.... But no UAE exit stamp or Oman entry stamp.

years ago you go thro wadi bih as an expat, but that option was closed a long time ago and its a long way back if you are turned away.

BB. But where is that checkpoint? If it is, as stated by AUHJohn, about 50km from Dibba then that's fine.

As far as i can see the whole of the Wadis are in Oman, so it should be OK.

I dunno where the checkpoints are but you definitely cannot drive from Dibba to Khasab. Unfortunately.

Trust me, you can not drive directly from Dibba to Kassab, the only Omani border post open to expats is on the main road between RAK and Kassab.
Until a couple of years ago it was possble to drive between RAK and Dibba via Wadi Bih as there were no UAE check posts. The only border post was the Omani Post at the T junction where the road leads off to Kassab. This was never open to expats, even in the days when one had to get a visa in advance from the Omani Embassy.
Its not the Omanis that are preventing expats driving the Wadi Bih route between RAK and Dibba, even through the majority of the route is in Oman. You can thank the bureaucratic Emiratis for the restriction. Similar to the Al Ain crossing points for local trips into Buraymi only require passing UAE check points even though you are in Oman.

as mentioned above, you could go through one side to the other thro wadi b, you did have to show your passport to prove that you were resident, but if that was the case, they let you through, but that "checkpoint" was closed a long time ago.
