Destitute in Dubai

Re: Destitute in Dubai
A few comments about the guy featured being lazy at work and spending the bank's money on luxurious holidays and goods and generally living it up. From the comments I read it seems that some of the people who commented knew the guy. I really don't feel sorry for people who spend money they haven't got to impress others.

Definitely. He'd be arrested for sleeping there for starters - this seems to me to be a blag to get the bank to do what he's asking. Fair play to him for pushing the system, no mean feat here....

If the report is right, he's a complete fool...no room for principles in this place.

Re: Destitute in Dubai
It's the creek in Bur Dubai opposite the British Consulate. I've fallen alseep on a bench there once and was woken and lectured by a police officer in Arabic. I can't imagine what it's like to stay there at this time of year - but I also know in this place many "friends" are anything but that when you are at a low point (especially financially) few people will let you stay with them indefinately.
A good German friend of mine has just gone home after being screwed over by his company. Luckily no debts but he wasn't paid, they took forever sorting his visa but told him no need to exit so he was overstayed by several months and couldn't pay the fine. When he complained he was almost arrested. Absolutely charming place isn't it?

And no he wasn't a client (I only deal with nice people), but I have been working with a newspaper on a story.
