Dark side of the Dubai dream

Re: Dark side of the Dubai dream
Interesting but no different really to any other articles written about Dubai and the UAE and their treatment of foreign workers.
However, anyone heard of the term 'Yik-Yaks' referred to in one of the letters, as an apparent nickname us Brits give to the immigrant workers? I've not heard it before.

Mantronic falls into this category too - I haven't seen anything from him lately, his comments always tickle me!

BBC certainly seem to be putting the boot in more than most. Latest Panorama on iPlayer is 'the culmination of a 3 month indepth investigation into Dubai'.......

Yes - they are the ones who probably look down their noses at the "yik yaks" - I haven't heard the term either but it must come from somewhere.

Interesting that article states UAE is largest regional market for British exports - what about Saudi? (Particularly BAE.)
Of course the infrastructure of England/London was not built by labourers brought in from outside who were treated badly both at work and away from work. Still surprised by the number of Irish working construction in the UK.
