what curreny are expats paid in, my husband will be paid is local Currency is this normally?

some people are paid in SAR, some GBP. the local currency is pretty good and pegged to the USD. what you do with it after that is all yours!

A combination of AED, GBP, USD and Euros.

From what I see, the majority of people in the UAE are paid in AED (UAE Dirhams), which with the current peg is equivalent to being paid in USD.
