Default Cost of living in Dubai

Hi All.

Sorry about this thread, yet again about the cost of living in Dubai when I know several other people have started this topic before.

I have read through comments on this site, and also other expat forums as well, and just need final comments on my query, if you would be so kind.

Starting a new job in Dubai in January.
My partner and I and our little dog are moving out, we have no children, so no school fees etc.

My salary equates to circa 34,500AED per month. Housing allowance on top of this, all utility bills paid. Fully expensed company car provided. Medical cover provided.

Reading on other expat forums, the common theme is you need a salary of circa 30,000AED to have a reasonable life. Some say this includes housing, others say excluding housing.

With my housing allowance taken care of, and the amount is irrelevant at this stage, will we have a comfortable life on 34,500AED per month?

Many thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi MM

So is that we can have a fairly good, basic life or extravagant if we wanted it?

I'd say for just the 2 of you...that amount would be enough to have some sort of bloody fantastic life...cause that money would be spending money, right, since everything else is paid for...I'd say go for it...

Thanks for the advice. I think that has finally put us at ease. The confusion came from other threads both here and other expat sites, where the magic figure of 30,000AED a month kept floating around, but I gather this includes expenditure associated with housing costs etc.

the figures floating around lately have been a bit over the top...we are a family of 5, with teenagers, and we get by ok on less money than sometimes is mentioned on here...

What is the housing allowance? Would you have to dip into your basic salary to cover the difference if any?

I hope you've done background checks on the company if it is a local one.....

Hi Indie

Housing allowance is AED130k, which, in all honesty we are hoping will pay for either a townhouse or villa.
As for the company, no problem there as I already work for them in a different location.
Possibly going to be working on the Downtown Jebel Ali project, so which areas would you suggest looking at for permanent accommodation, bearing in mind the traffic problems?

It would only pay for a 2 bed apartment..... Villa would be closer to 200-240k...

I think the Green Community..... but better let the other posters answer that as I'm not sure of the traffic situation out there.....

Good Luck!!

If that's the case, why when I log onto Milforddubai.com, they are advertising villas on there in Arabian Ranches for circa AED145,000? or is there a hidden cost to be added?
