Default Cost of living check please?

Hi, It is highly likely that I will be accepting a job offer in DXB this week. May I ask peoples input to see if I have missed anything obvious off my budget below? As a bit of background, my wife and I are 29 and 28 respectively, no children (just 2 dogs).

I have had offers tabled for work in Dubai. The packages are roughly AED420,000 per year plus flights out to DXB, and 2x return flights for my wife and I per year, health and dental for us both, 5wks per year annual leave. Accommodation and car to be provided out of the above salary.

My wife will be working out in DXB but as yet salary is unconfirmed, best guess approx AED200,000.

The list below is obviously an 'ideal' lifestyle for us and we could trim significant sums out of the budget by changing my car choice, reducing the housing budget and reducing the day to day expenditure. The mortgage on our current property in the UK will be covered by the rental income.
  1. AED 200,000 to rent a 3 bed villa
  2. AED 2,100 home insurance (complete guess)
  3. AED 7,250 tax
  4. AED 21,000 utility bills
  5. AED 50,100 (for 48mths) my treat, an Audi RS6
  6. AED 10,000 car insurance (based on 5%)
  7. AED 24,000 2nd car
  8. AED 5,000 car insurance (based on 5%)
  9. AED 2,800 Groceries
  10. AED 50,000 Socialising, day to day living expenses etc. (i think this is too generous)
    TOTAL AED372,250

Looks like you have a good idea on what to expect. Your housing allowance is probably slightly over-estimated if there is just two of you, however it all depends on what you want. We live in a three bedroom villa in the Springs with a big garden for 100K per year, however these days you'll be looking at about 140k per year for the same villa.

Apart from that, you've probably got it right, it's always best to over-estimate than under as so many people do when moving here.

Blimey, you're not yet 30 and your earning that kind of money? You should be able to live the life of Reilly out here. Ya lucky sod!
Now don't go and spoil it by having Kids!

We pay about 3.25%, excess AED 500 - but we have a 10 years no claims history, and it is a salon. Would recommend AXA - forget the local insurance companies - NGI, OIC.......

If it is a sports car, then expect to pay 7% atleast - no matter your age or track record.

You could get an enormous 4- or 5-bed brand-new villa with its own swimming pool in Jumeirah Islands for only about 10-20k more than that.

Sounds realistic - although you may have tp up the insurance cost for your RS6 (but not that that much amazingly - because it has four doors and a boot it will be cheaper than, say a Hyundai Coupe)

Beach clubbing should be banned. Poor defenseless creatures... have you seen how much blood comes out of a young beach?

You should all be ashamed...

Your rent is way over estimated, and you've not added anything for savings - are you planning to work forever?

An over-estimation on the rent is not a worry. We want to keep our standard of living at least equal with what we have here in the uk (5 bed house in Cheltenham).

Savings are not mentioned as 100% of my wifes salary (more than I earn!) will be split between offshore accounts and UK property market.
