Default Construction Legal Matters

Just a quick question for everyone. What is the score with the legal side of the construction industry in the UAE? I am making particular reference to the fact that, say I'm in charge of a project and someone is killed in an accident, how does the law look at this? Are you hung drawn and quartered, or do they go after the top brass?? Does the actual origin of the person affected actually matter, ie if its an Arab, you can kiss seeing your family again.

It might seem like a strange question but we were talking at work about it earlier today and in the UK the government have just introduced the Corporate Manslaughter Bill, is there a comparable Bill in the UAE??

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Police will arrive to investigate and will generally take away the Safety manager.
PM may be taken, if nothing else than a bargaining chip with the Company.
You'd generally be locked up until blame has been apportioned and punishments handed out.

Generally not so serious as UK.
Just make sure you don't kill or seriously injure anyone!!
Have a nice day!

aware of a company in Sharjah that has had 3 fatalities. HSE man was not taken away. Nothing really came of it..

Frightening really given the nature..

2 x burnt to a cinder from acetylene explosion
1 x buried under a cement bag

but your company should provide you with insurance

Nothing will happen as there are no deaths in the UAE construction industry.
