Default Construction Jobs in Dubai

I have been researching on-and-off for the last year about a move to Dubai. Is it getting that difficult for us to get a good salary package nowadays? I have heard different takes on it, saying that companies are no longer offering great packages..... but on the other hand have read some people are earning a good salary still in Dubai. I also read that some companies are moving to a 5 day working week with 2 full day weekends of Sat/Sun. This comment was made by someone working in the construction industry.

Is it going to be VERY difficult to get a good salary + accommodation + car + flights + health AND do a 5 day week in Dubai?? Am I asking for TOO much nowadays?

FYI --- I'm a Senior Quantity Surveyor with 8+ years experience. Degree qualified.

I would like to hear some views on this from people who work out there in the construction industry, or know of people. Any help and advice appreciated!

have a snoop through the forums, quite a few posts about what to expect and the like....but you'll struggle to get the great packages of days gone by of the 80's/90's.

MJC is pretty much on the money, so to speak, although you would probably get health insurance paid for by your company.

Have you got a job sorted? I know a firm who might be interested in you. PM me if you're interested.

I don't work in construction, but don't know many people here who get a 5 day week...as for weekends Friday/Saturday now, and can't see that changing as Friday is the relgious day for Muslims.

Dubai would change name if it could make a profit out of it.

Yes, I have come across a lot of QS jobs on the websites offering around AED30k-45k a month. The scary thing is I've read on a few threads that you would struggle with a family on this sort of money! That's £60k-70k net! :scared:

We have 2 young kids, 1 & 3 year olds, so the older one would only be going to nursery or pre-school in the mornings.

littlejimmy - I will send you a PM

If anyone knows of any firms hiring, please let me know! I am going to actively start looking for work now.

Do you think they will offer that kind of money + free accommodation? How about car? The big concern for the move would be the spiring rental costs.... so if they gave us a house, then it would be well worth it I suppose. Here in London pays pretty well as well, but of course, it's not tax-free. But I have heard that Dubai is getting very expensive.

I just want to know what we should expect.

I think Dubai is expensive by Middle East standards, but we find it far cheaper than London.

Molls,

Believe me, you can have a decent life with the little 'uns on that, you know 3 bed somewhere (15k/month) couple of cars at about 4k all in, bills come to another 2k so that'll still leave you with 9 to (literally) play with.

And you should be offered free healthcare and life insurance too.

Rent your place out in the UK and Bob's your uncle!!

If you want to save DON'T go out with Jammy tho!!

What about school? We shell out 80k per annum for 2 kids One has just entered high school.

Please don't forget to budget for education (especially as your 3 year old will start primary next year)

Our 6-year-old is in Year 2 at DBS and the fees are 28k per annum.

You can get somewhere to live for less than 15k a month as well if you look. It depends whether you want to live with the posey set in Jumeirah or not.

Yes, around the same for the younger one. My older one's is around 50k - including activities. But the school is well worth the fees.
