Companies with Gmail accounts
Should I bother applying for vacancies where the contact email address is Gmail or Yahoo etc. Seems very unprofessional and could be anyone on the other side.

seems a bit odd...most companies wouldn't use anything but their own email, unless they are a tiny one-man band kinda operation...

And when some of them explicitly ask 4 "Eastern European female under 25y/o" you really do wonder who is on the other side

Very true, especially when most of them don't even give a company name. But because so many adverts used free email ids, I thought maybe it was common for legitimate companies to use free mail in the UAE. Looks like my suspicions were right, glad I didnt email my CV to any.

the average response to an ad in gulf news can be as high as 300-400 responses with about 399 of them being utter shit, some co.s will give a gmail etc so that a)their own inbox isnt screwed and b) so they dont get spammed rotten by nigerians.
that said any decent co. can easily cope with the above so you'll find its mostly local co.s and very small operations that do so.

I know quite a few small but decent companies managed by westeners that are using free mail accounts. But I would never send my cv if I don't have a clue what's behind it.

I create a gmail address for ad's in Gulf News because 99% of the responses are not relevant at all, people must just go through and mail every single ad.
In the UK we use our "proper" email
Always mention the company name though, to try and appeal to the 3 or 4 sensible people who may be interested
