Default Coming to Dubai, not happy

I'm coming to Dubai, it's not my choice, my choice was unemployment or go to Dubai and i'm not happy about it. Doing a little research on the place has made me even more unhappy. Why would any white person want to live there? Why would any free person want to live there? Why would any normal person want to live there? I cannot help but feel i've just been sentenced to prison for an indeterminate amount of time and i'm seriously considering leaving the company, but I'm a senior VP and It's highly unlikely that I would find a comparable position here at this stage of my life. Is there anything good anyone can tell me about Dubai that could possibly cheer me up because for the life of me I cannot find anything on the internet that has so far?

You have obviously researched the DailyMail archives!!
I have been here for over 8 years and have always loved it.
I don't understand this .."Why would any white person want to live there? Why would any free person want to live there? Why would any normal person want to live there?" Do explain.
You sound such a pessimist, there are hundreds of thousands of expats in all colours and nationalities who live and work here and enjoy it. Of course Dubai isn't perfect, please tell me where is?
Of course if you are coming over soon you will find it difficult adjusting to the heat..OH and Ramadan starts in July which will give you extra joy.

The sandstorms are nowhere near as bad as you get in Kuwait or Riyadh.

OP - Have you ever been on the receiving end of a particularly hearty Arabian Sandstorm?

VP's are a rare commodity in Dubai, I don't think I've actually met one myself.

That elevates you to celestial status, the bare minimum your company should provide you with is a BMW 3 series car, a palatial villa in The Springs and a harem of maids.

Simple, don't come. The UAE doesn't need people who think like this and I cannot stand it when I hear the "white" card being used.

Why do some WHITE British people think that because of the colour of their skin and passport, they should be treated like royalty abroad?

Stay put wherever you are, continue to read The Sun, DailyMail crap.

However, if you want to be treated better due to the colour of your skin, go to Abuja or somewhere and your ego maybe catered for.
