Claiming a dumped car

Claiming a dumped car
I know of a dumped car - it's not moved for over 6 months, registration expired in Jan and the back seats are covered in papers one of which says 'for sale - expat leaving'
I assume he didn't sell it in time before doing a bunk.
It is possible to try and claim ownership of this car? or find out if there is finance on it and make an offer to the bank?
It's a long shot for sure - and it will also require money spending on it to get it going again.

Nothing wrong with Solihulls finest. This board is a little Landroverphobic.
I shall dedicate my life to rescuing abandoned LRs, RRs and Discos in Bahrain.
You can abandon a dog or cat by the side of the road as they can fend for themselves but not a Landrover

For what it's worth, until recently, I happily owned a 1980 Range Rover, which was entirely reliable, but that had 3 fuses in its entire electrical system, two nice carburettors and, could, if you fancied attempting it, be started by shoving the jack handle in the front and cranking...
P.S. the third (possibly fourth) most reliable car in the U.K is a Discovery.

If the keys are in it, couldn't you just errr...find some dodgy geezer to ship it to somewhere like Albania for some easy cash?

1990-2000 Land Rover products, were, how shall we put it? Not particularly well assembled. I am not a Land Roverphobe, on the contrary, I like them very much, but it's just that those from the mentioned period have had a habit of abandoning ME by the side of the road...

Re: Claiming a dumped car
Thats fine then. Classic 3.5 excellent choice, had the misfortune to own a 4.2 LSE many years ago with permanently perforating air bags. Not a happy or cheap experience Been offered a 130 defender here which would be fun but the wife does not want to turn the villa into a sanctuary for abandoned Landies. I have a 95 auto Disco back home which is bullet proof bar for some dodgy electric windows, battery discharging issues, leaking sunroof etc. All part of the LR charm

Re: Claiming a dumped car
I have one of the very rare 4 door Defenders that LR exported to the US. So while I like D110s, I will also admit that quality control was alien to LR's Defender department.

Re: Claiming a dumped car
I see there are plenty of places in the UK exporting 25 year old plus series 3's and stage 1's to the states as there is a decent demand and being over 25 years old you get around some import issues. Shame they didnt export more at the time.

Re: Claiming a dumped car
It won't be a 130 pick up. It will be a 110 with a hefty external roll cage. Should be white, too.

Re: Claiming a dumped car
Hmm. I think where the problem is, is that US 110's were what we would call a 5 door station wagon, but for reasons of getting them past US emisions, safety and fuel regulations, they were "4 door commercai vehicles"
so no need for air bags and so on. The 3.9/4.0 V8's were a bit less strangled by emisions gear too, compared to a US Range Rover or Discovery.
