..didn't know they had one !

I suppose you can get artificial ones in hypermarkets (is there a Carrefour in Riyadh?)

PS When Billy Connolly was in Australia he was taken out to see the bush...but couldn't find it !

Buy a large potted shrub/small tree.

Put lights on it.

Add a couple of balls with sheikhs' faces painted on them.

Let the cat break a few.

Problem solved.

Go to the philippina souk in Bathaa, go upstairs and you will be approached by fertive men asking 'you want Christmas Tree?' - they will drag them out from under the counter - all pretty cheap looking and not really worth buying. Best bet is to get one shipped over or bring one with you when you next travel.

So you are a practising Christian then, are you? I suggest you ask a Filipino as they are generally into the Xmas festivities and many have good local connections. A friendly word of advice though. Don't put the tree in the front window...unless you live on a western compound.

Do you have to be a practicing Christian to want a Christmas Tree? I think Christmas is far more cultural than religious to the vast majority of people these days.

Quite agree, my stunning green-eyed Christmas pixie. Indeed, there is nothing Christian about an X-mas tree in any case - the origins of the tradition are Celtic-Druidic, not Judaic.

True...many kids associate Santa Claus with Christmas rather than Jesus..even though the latter's name is in the actual name of the day !

Good point. Even worse, didn't Prince Albert, a German (horrors!) popularise them in Britain.
