Can really recommend the Rosetta Stone software - you can buy the package or sign up for an online subscription; excellent approach to language learning.

Even cheaper: the pimsleur, if you dig enough, you'll find it somewhere available for "evaluation"...

IMHO, the pimsleur isn't half the course that Rosetta Stone is. Bearing in mind I still can't speak very good Portuguesse after using both...

Could be you, then, "Portuguesse"? The didactic approach is completely different, and the pimsleur's one is completely mnemono-phonetic: you have to try to remember what you listened to, no pen or paper, no textbooks, no nothing. Hell, you don't even need a computer, an iPod is everything you need! To get you up and running in the basics, I can't find anything better, понимаете? Rosetta is more fun for kids, though, with those pictures to click and the associations to be made.
