Hi all,

Im looking to rent a car for a few weeks until my visa comes through.

Does anyone know of the cheapest place to rent such vehicles.

Also when I am ready to buy a car the best place to buy cars. Is it worth my while going upto Dubai to fish around?

Or if anyone knows of any expat looking to sell their car/jeep.

I think the hire car companies are much of a muchness when it comes to price.
I would go with Hertz - basic car around 15-1700dhs for a month or two.

Be aware that if you buy a car from outside Abu dhabi, to get it registered you will officially have to 'import' it into the emirate, which as with all things here, carries a fee and some paperwork.

Look at gulf news, there are always cars in the classified there, for dxb and abd.

be careful where you hire from. My office manager hired a toyota corolla for one of my colleagues from cairo so he could go to RAK with myself and 1 client. the car was so dangerous we had to turn back after 500 yards on SZR and pick up my car instead. it was an absolute death trap.

thats why I always choose Hertz or one of the big companies.
You are now going to P on my chips by telling me it was a Hertz car aren't you?

don't know who it was but they must have been some dodgy back street operation,

anywhere between 2 weeks and 3 months. depends on your company. if its a free zone visa and you have a good PRO it can be very quick.

It really depends on your employers will..
If they want they can do it in a couple of weeks to a month, if they can't be bothered they might take a couple of months.
I would hire the car for 2 months, then when your visa comes through you still have plenty of hire car time, meaning you aren't tempted to buy the first shed that you see and instead can be a 'discerning purchaser'.
