Change in passport procedures

Transfer of Overseas Passport Applications to the UK

To renew your current British passport or to apply for a British passport for the first time, you must make your application to the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) in the UK.

Hopefully it will be quicker than sending it to Germany.

I bet it isn't. Zee Germans turned mine around in about 15 days over Christmas. I'd like to see the scallys do that.

I always go home and get a same day jobber in Peterborough. Though it does mean I have to spend a day in the swill pit that's Peterborough. I wish I had a PRO in the UK.

CHANGES TO BRITISH PASSPORT SERVICES
IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

We are making important changes to the way we deliver British passports. From 11 February 2013, you should submit passport applications to the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) in the UK for processing. All the information needed to complete the passport application process, is available on the GOV.UK website at: https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports.

If you cannot find the information you need on the GOV.UK website, please contact the Passport Adviceline. Details are on the website at https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports.

You should avoid leaving applying for your passport until the last minute. You can apply to renew your passport at any time. Any remaining validity up to nine months will be transferred from your old passport to your new one.

If you are renewing your passport, you should allow at least four weeks from the date the fee is taken and all the correct documentation has been received. If you are applying for the first time or you are replacing a lost or stolen passport, you should allow at least six weeks. Your application may take longer if IPS needs to request further information.

You should not book travel until you have received your new passport. The British Government cannot accept responsibility for costs incurred if travel is booked and subsequently cancelled before the passport has been received.

You will receive your new passport and supporting documents separately.

NATIONALITY ENQUIRIES
The Home Office is the lead government department on nationality matters. If you have an enquiry about eligibility for British citizenship or nationality, information can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/british-passport-eligibility.

URGENT TRAVEL
If you need to travel urgently but your normal passport is not available, you should contact the nearest Consular Assistance team in the United Arab Emirates. In certain circumstances our staff may be able to issue an Emergency Travel Document but this is not a substitute for a full UK passport.

I wonder if any Germans actually work there.

I deliberately sent mine before the deadline as I trusted zee Germans to be more efficient that the scallys... I admit there should have been some notion of loyalty / national pride but that got overruled by just plain old common sense....

Same as Millhouse - took a little over 2 weeks.

Does anyone know what happens when you have two British passports and want to renew one? Do you just renew it as normal, or do you have to do something special? Also, I can't remember now which one of my passports is the "second" passport - so if I have to do something special I won't know which passport I'm supposed to do it with.

Yours confusedly,

csdf

I'm sure I was told that you have to renew both passports, that was a couple of years ago though.

Is one of the passports designated as a 'second' passport? I just use whichever one is to hand when travelling, or if applying for visas I leave the one with my UAE visa in the UAE and travel on my other - which is what I'm doing right now as I'm in Shanghai and I need a KSA visa.

How can you leave the UAE on the passport that doesn't have your UAE visa? Don't they need to see proof that you entered the country in order to let you leave it?

I used my gold Skywards card to enter and exit, my Skywards expired Feb and they still haven't sent my new card, so when I return in a week or two's time I'll just use my other passport and enter on a tourist visa.
