Default Car Prices in Abu Dhabi

Can someone expalin something for me.
I'm due to move to Abu Dhabi for 4 years in March/April.
With that in mind I've been looking for cars to buy.
Not surprisingly (given my username) I'm looking for an Audi.
Why is it that the cars in AD are at least 30-40% more expensive than in the UK, for example I was looking at a new Audi S5, in the UK it's £45k, in AD it's £60k equivalent???????????
Even used models are a ridiculous price - what is going on???
Hope someone can give me an explanation.

Colin

I am heading out at the same time (to Dubai not AD) - some cars/makes seem to to be very expensive over there. Looking at S5, RS4 etc...very expensive - looking at used E60 M5 they seem reasonable and cheaper than here - I also noticed Dubai cars are cheaper, so looking there could make sense.

I read on her that people do that rather frequently

Cheers
Z

The GBP-USD exchange rate moved 30%?

Welcome to the UAE, where everything (apart from Naan breads and Chinese Takeaways) is more expensive.

An explanation would require the application of logic. Wrong region, my friend. Beemers are equally expensive over here. It could simply be that anything is only worth what someone's willing to pay for it--and if Audi can sell sufficient numbers of high-end cars at a huge margin, then that's what they do.

Anyway, don't be so poncy. Get yerself a VW R36: AED147k, and bundles of fun.
