Default Car A/C Servicing!!

My little Audi A3 is starting to suffer from the summer and seriously needs the AC serviced.... it's nearly 11 years old so doesn't need a huge amount spending on it but I know the AC can be great it's just lost it's edge recently.

Not being mechanical in anyway I don't know if it is just a top up or a full service to get it back to being chilly again..... Any suggestions?

On that note does anyone know of a good mechanic???

There is someone advertises on the radio regarding A/C but cannot for the life of me remember who it is. I do know there are not many Audi agents here but if the system simply needs recharging then maybe a drive to Karama might just be what you need, there are lots of garages there, not sure I would trust them with a new car but if it is just a recharge then shouldn't be too difficult. Good luck hope you get it sorted. there are a couple of mechanics more car minded people on here who hopefully will be able to assist more

OK... found an Emarat station who does AC in Al Wasl, after waiting an hour they came back and told me my AC compressor was broken.... They are calling be back with a quote but have a feeling that they are not going to be the cheapest......

I know I asked before but I would really like a decent, 'honest' mechanic to have a look and give me a quote.

I will be checking out the one on defenence round about later. Any others?

Please help me as my car is now unbearable to drive!

I normally take my old beemers to AAA in Al Quoz (next door to Oman Insurance). Although they really specialised in BMWs I have seen Mercs and Audis there.

Look out for the slightly asian looking guy from Birmingham in the office. He's sensible to deal with and understands that you wanna fix the car rather than buy it again.

Hope it helps

A 'OK' place I used to use when I had my VW Corrado was Friends Autos in al Quoz (just behind the petrol station on the Lulu supermarket Rd just above the MOE. The petrol station is just off Al Khail so at the opposite end from SZR). They apparently specialise in VW and Audi and did all my AC for me in the Rado.

Another place where I have taken my Jeep in AAA in Rashidiya. Gordon the Scottish guy is the boss and is OK to deal with, although I thnk he may hate Aussies as he aparently was a wank to my mate when he was asking perfectly reasonable questions.

I have also used Max garage....

All in all, most garages are shite over here.

Default Re: Car A/C Servicing/ Now maybe Scrapping....

Thanks for all your suggesstions with this, I did a bit of shopping around yesterday and have pretty much reached the verdict of scrapping me ol' Audi as the best quote we got was over 5000 Dizzers.....

I have a terrible feeling that if the ac goes and it costs this much, how much for a new head gasket/gear box which I think is inevitable in a car as old as this (11 years).....

So on this note does anyone know the details/process of having to scrap a car here or even better selling it to a garage????

Sell it to a garage in Dubai(quoz), Sharjah(Industrial), Abu dhabi (Mussafah) but don't expect more than 15K for it.
But your car is 11 years old. Audi.. I would say its a waste to sell it.

Thanks, I'll check out AL Quoz and see what's what. I would love to get 15k as we only paid 10 for it 6 months ago!!!!

Why is it a waste to sell an 11 year old Audi with huge potential bills and no AC!?!?!? It is a killer driving it up and down SZR to work everyday!

The reason why we would sell it is because it's going to cost us a fortunbe to keep it running for another 6 months, e.g. the battery was replaced 3 months ago and it is now having problems starting again (alternator and or starter motor), the fan belt is slipping, speedo packed up last week and it sounds like a bag of nails when you are on SZR... the list is endless! If we sell it now we don't lose money on it, if we repair the AC it has to run till at least xmas to make financial sense without anything else going wrong with it.

Do you wan to buy it?!?!?!

Seriously......

Offers welcome!
