Buying shares on Dubai Stock market

Ok, now that you've stopped laughing... It's a serious question - how do you go about doing so? Has anyone got any reccies? (apart from don't be so bloody stupid!)

Cheers

you have to register at some place in DIFC before you can start buying, that is all I know.

Have you taken advice from a good Economist on this as I happen to know one ;)

You really want to buy shares in companies that are not fully accountable?

More fool you.

But it does not follow that not having an accountability (which is not the same as having accountants, by the way) makes it better.

Thats my point, in the west we have accountants who effectively do what the client tells them. In the Middle East most businesses are family owned and the accountants....do what the business tell them. There may well be opportunities in the Gulf markets now. all the Middle East stocks are down but some banks and businesses are still robust and still profitable and not exposed to whats happened in Dubai. Just an observation thats all.

accountants and accountablility are different things. everything on this exchange produces accounts, being accountable to the shareholders is a different story.

It's a rigged "market" anyway mate. You'd be better of throwing away the economics books and start insider trading. it's what everyone else is doing - you don't have a chance.

RedRoar, to answer your question, you first need to go to DFM and set up an investor account. You need your passport copy (or perhaps best to carry the original).
Then you need to open a trading account with one of the many trading companies there. Its pretty easy and simple. All companies charge the same per transaction; some may charge more if you have online trading etc.
Bottom line - go to DFM and they'll help you out!

Good luck!

You can also go to a broker and they will do arrange the account opening for you.
Use a broker that belongs to a bank and open a bank account there, then money transfer is automatic between broker and bank account.
There are two markets - Abu Dhabi and Dubai. You need an account at each but broker will organise that for you.
Costs should be the same whether broker has online account or not.
The DIFC has another market that operates differently, I don't think you need an account, you just go to a broker and buy shares.
