Re: Buying an engagement ring in Dubai? Advice?
Hello all,
I'm looking to buy an engagement ring in the next few weeks. My better half (who's in the UK) has seen a couple of designs she likes in Beaverbrooks.
However I'm told I can get the same thing at better price here in Dubai.
Has anyone had any experience of buying diamond jewellery out here and can confirm the price difference is worth the hassle?
Basically I like the convenience of going into a UK shop with my fiance and getting her a ring that fits and that she likes, job done.
However buying her one from Dubai means the hassle of printing off the designs that she likes, getting her ring measurement size, finding a jeweller that can knock me up a white gold ring and the diamond cluster design she wants, then worrying about if I've been ripped off on substandard jewels, then worrying about how I'm going to get the ring and box back to the UK without being interrogated by Customs (assuming I have to pay taxes on the ring???)
In the end will the savings over a £1500 ring in the UK be worth it for me to buy in Dubai?
Would be grateful for any advice and where to buy (if you guys think Dubai would be the better place to buy)
Thanks all,
Fax

When we got back to the UK we even took the ring to the specialists in Belgium to verify its authenticity. It was confirmed as exactly as described when purchased.
We then had it valued by a reputable UK jeweller and it was valued at over 4 times what we had paid.
I am hoping to get to Dubai later this year and will be looking to buy again

OK, see what you have done! Worse thing I ever did was give the missus my password to this site. I hate the lot of you!
Guess where I got dragged to kicking and screaming today?
Yes, you got it right Cara at the G&D Centre. Thank you so very fewking much. 1.63 carat diamond for her birthday.
Have you any idea how much chrome I could have bought with that amount of money?
AND I still need to get her a birthday card, wtf is that?
NOT HAPPY!

Spider, what you talking about; spider? Now houseboys... in my day we didn't have bleach. We used spit and polish, we did. Had to run away from them Polis a number of times, big fat slugs they were. My tomatoes are struggling with slugs, eeeh by gum.

Re: Buying an engagement ring in Dubai? Advice?
Hi guys,
Just as an updated wanted to thank everyone for their replies.
I ended up going to the much mentioned Cara in the Gold and Diamond park on Sheikh Zayed Road. It was the only busy shop in the otherwise empty mall. Service was very friendly and patient, no hard sell at all and I took my time.
To cut a long story short I selected a ring that my fiancée loved and then to top it all of we had it valued in the UK (for insurance) at over twice the purchase price in Dubai
I'm ashamed to say it but my mercenary side has come out and I'd just want to ask everyone, what does it mean when the jeweller says "it is valued at £xxxx" Does that mean I'll be able to sell it for that price or is it just figure for insurance purposes.
What I was thinking was that I'd buy a couple more diamond pieces next time I'm in Dubai and flog them in England and pay for my flights and accommodation in the process?
Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

Putting yourself back at square one....would you have bought your ring second-hand off someone in the UK who bought it back from Dubai?

Hi Guys
If You want to buy a new diamond engagement ring from dubai then go to the samra jewellery and purchase diamond engagement ring. Whenever You purchase new diamond then remember these thing like Check the 4 C's, cut, clarity, carat and colour. These are the factors that decide the value of a diamond.

Re: Buying an engagement ring in Dubai? Advice?
I have spent couple of days last week researching online about engagement rings in Dubai and stumbled on few forums, including this one, where people recommended Cara.
We flew to Dubai last weekend and went to G&D Park to check Cara out. Now, I don't generally wear jewelry and knew nothing about diamonds, so had to do my homework in advance on 4 C's.
Anyway, our budget was £1500 for an engagement ring alone. I have picked 0.48 carat (G colour, VS1, very good cut) IGI certified diamond in a sealed pack, which they have opened and set in front of me - I went for classic Tiffany's solitaire ring. My fiance did not like the white gold so we went for yellow 18k. On top of that we've got out wedding bands from Cara as well, plain gold for him, diamond ring with total 0.64 carat good quality stones for me, which with the discounts salesman gave us came up to 7550 Dirhams (£1300) for 3 rings.
Cara also gave us a warranty on engagement ring - if the setting comes loose and diamond is lost, I was told to bring the diamond certificate and they will replace it for free. Oh, and they fussed over us in the shop as if we were spending a fortune in there :-)
I have looked up diamondland.be which was also recommended on few forums, and the cost of loose diamond alone, of same colour and clarity, 0.5 carat came to $2194.00/ £1380.00.
All in all, I am very happy with the purchase. When we'll go back to UK for Christmas, I'll have rings valued out of curiosity, but pretty sure it will be double of what we have paid for it.
I'm thinking that next time we're in Dubai, I'm going to pay them a visit and check some diamond earrings out
