bugs and animals
Hi there,
I live in Thailand but am hoping to move to KSA next year. Just wondering about bugs, animals and creepy crawlies. Over here the mosquitoes are a pain in that you can't sit out at night without getting bit and there are some daytime flies in parts of the country that can be annoying. A lot of snakes around although you see a lot more dead ones than live ones. The odd scorpion and centipede. Dogs are everywhere.
What's it like in KSA ?
anything that's annoying ? or dangerous ? or cute ?

They appear to be rather docile, harmless even, but they can become agitated quite unpredictably. In Saudi guide books, they are not officially described as 'dangerous' but many people have regretted going too close to them.

In Saudi, watch out for something called a 'muttawa'.

The post may have been funny (as an inside joke) but it raises a very serious point. The muttawa and what they represent in terms of the structure of Saudi society will have a far bigger influence on your life than the existence of ants and cockroaches.

And are you seriously about to make a 'yes' or 'no' decision on moving to another country based on the wildlife you might find there?

It's fine and important to want to think about the logistics, but Saudi is not a place you can take the context in which you live lightly. The whole way of life in Saudi is affected by the kind of society it is.
