Default bugs and animals

Hi there,
I live in Thailand but am hoping to move to KSA next year. Just wondering about bugs, animals and creepy crawlies. Over here the mosquitoes are a pain in that you can't sit out at night without getting bit and there are some daytime flies in parts of the country that can be annoying. A lot of snakes around although you see a lot more dead ones than live ones. The odd scorpion and centipede. Dogs are everywhere.

What's it like in KSA ?

anything that's annoying ? or dangerous ? or cute ?

In Saudi, watch out for something called a 'muttawa'.

They appear to be rather docile, harmless even, but they can become agitated quite unpredictably. In Saudi guide books, they are not officially described as 'dangerous' but many people have regretted going too close to them.

I'm not going for a year so I do have a lot of time. I'm more concerned with schools for my children, a place to live etc etc at this stage, rather than a local term for the religious police. I am well aware that things in KSA are different to what I am used to. Obviously you all know a lot more than me which is why I was hoping that someone might be able to tell me about the bugs and animals to be found there as I said in my OP.

Never mind.

It's fine and important to want to think about the logistics, but Saudi is not a place you can take the context in which you live lightly. The whole way of life in Saudi is affected by the kind of society it is.

The post may have been funny (as an inside joke) but it raises a very serious point. The muttawa and what they represent in terms of the structure of Saudi society will have a far bigger influence on your life than the existence of ants and cockroaches.

It wouldn't have been funny though, would it...........?

And are you seriously about to make a 'yes' or 'no' decision on moving to another country based on the wildlife you might find there?

I realise that but I was just curious about what bugs and animals there might be there. Just curious , that's all. No big deal.

No , I'm not making a yes or no decision on moving to another country based on the wildlife I might find there. I was just curious that's all. Trying to find out about one apsect of the place in the same way that you would find out about the weather and rainfall and food etc. The price of petrol. Day to day shit. Are there going to be lizards going up and down my walls like there are here. Is that really that strange. I thought the point of forums like this was that you could ask people a question and then they answer it. Instead people make all sorts of assumptions.

So can anybody tell me about bugs and animals that might be in KSA ?
