When I spoke to the Embassy in the UAE re: Emergency passports, they advised me that my residence visa in the UAE would be cancelled if I left on an emergency passport?? I didn't proceed any further with it... Not sure if this is the case or not, I do now however have both my passports back after 10wks of waiting...

yes on every thread about this it is the case, your visa would be cancelled if you get an etd and also its usually the case your passport application is usually cancelled too.

I've been told by the Muscat embassy that my visa won't be cancelled, and that my passport application will still go through, if I get an ETD... I might need to get a tourist visa though when I come back if the fingerprint gate isn't working....

well on about uae, as thats what been said before... but we of course know they all follow different rules, even when they see the moon for ramadan, muscat always sees it later but really they shouldnt cancel your visa and they shouldnt cancel your passport application after all its thru no fault of the applicant now is it. i suppose would be the case in the "normal issuance of etd".

ah yes - that's true. "normally" you get an ETD because it's been stolen or lost, so would "normally" make total sense to cancel that.

ramadhan has shockingly been declared as starting on 29th because they know they won't be able to see the moon so for first time in living history have used astrology to declare!

Just FYI, the UK Passport office in the UK who answer the calls regarding overseas applications, missing paperwork, etc cannot do anything or know anything that is not on the system. All they can do is send an email to the relevant office. Then, a week later, following another call, they send another email. Last week, when I called them they said they would send another email - low and behold still no f*ing reply.

The people who answer the phone in the UK do not have a phone number for the person they are emailing in Liverpool and cannot do anything further than sending an email to the concerned office. Frustrating to say the least.

Anyway, the last time I spoke to them, they suggested calling the UK Embassy here in Dubai to see if they had it. The number for the embassy leads to going round in circles on answering machine messages.

Has anyone got a phone number that puts me through to a person (rather than a recorded message) at the British Embassy in Dubai ?

Thanks

The Embassy won't have your passport. The UK DHLs them back to the person who sent them off. You're far better trying to call DHL to see if they have it.

the embassy dont usually have anything to do with them, try dhl to see what comes up as they are trackable etc. and as you may know sometimes you need to do face to face to get anything sorted here.

N.
According to their system, my renewal application is marked as complete and they cannot provide any tracking reference.

I appreciate the embassy shouldn't have anything to do with them, however the guy in the UKPA suggested I try them in case it has been delivered there.

I've sent a mail to DHL, so hopefully they can find something in their system.

I've been told it will be six weeks at least but have just dropped a nice and polite email asking how it was going and if they need further information. Can't hurt.

I don't need to travel until Sept but was hoping to go home for a long weekend at the end of July - obviously haven't booked anything given how things have been going.

it may have changed now they are going from uk and online applications where you can i think track the parcel... when i last got one from germany tho dhl just rang up to ask where to deliver it etc

I'm on an emergency one now. Need to find a way through the labyrinth of immigration rules that allows me both out of the country and back in again, without screwing up the visas. This is rather important because if I get it wrong I potentially face a 2 year out of country ban!

My old passport was delievered by DHL today - 5 weeks after my new one.

So all in all, about 13 weeks from when I sent my old one away originally.

10 days before I go on holiday.
