They look nice, but they drive like crap and are built even worse.

If you only go in straight lines then go for it.

If DH wants a muscle car, I know someone selling a 1973 Trans Am...far far better.

If you (or he) want to do the V8 muscle car thing how about a Dodge Charger or a Chrysler 300C? Both are a bit more expensive than a Mustang but much, much better put together.

Looked at both cars and ended up getting a Charger RT cheaper than the Mustang.

Was not impressed with Mustang, love the Charger. Go for orange with a confederate flag on the roof.

Interesting feedback. Test drove the Charger and DH was not as impressed with it. I only got to test drive it for about 2 mins. I liked the feel of the Mustang. DH likes the boy racer look of the Mustang. Even on the test drive he had some guys trying to race him ... not always a good thing though.

Northernlad - how much was your insurance on the Charger. It is considerably cheaper, isn't it?

The colours DH want in the Mustang are either white, with a wide white stripe or red with a white stripe. The blue is really cool as well but the sales guy told him that the resale is better on white or red.

I had an MG TF in the UK - not quite the same league but really miss a sporty car and looking forward to track days if the Mustang is the one.

The Mustang is a powerful car but I wouldn't have said it was sporty. It has a live rear axle (last seen on European cars in about, oh, 1973) which produces some interesting handling when it goes around corners. If you buy a car on looks alone (and we've all done it!) I can see the appeal of a Mustang but I test drove it and then bought a 300C. Not an orange one though

Anyway, let us know what you end up doing and if you are happy with your choice.

My OH has a Mustang GT and basically it's a glorified Ford Capri!!!! He bought it before I had joined him in the States and I was not a happy camper! After six months he is looking to get rid of it as it's a big gas guzzling piece of crap! Unfortunately he hasn't quite managed to get the deal he was looking for he's interested in a Subaru Impreza STI like we had in the UK, much smaller than the Mustang but at least you can get four adults in it.
He loved the boy racer look of the GT and has great fun rallying his colleagues to lunch every day. Go for the Charger just my two cents worth!

Yes, dont buy one, they are cr@p.

There are plenty of better muscle cars that arent a hunk of junk. The marketing for them is superb and harks back to the 60's and 70's glory days but the new ones are badly built pieces of junk.

It's under $2 a gallon here too...

But please dissuade him from getting the Mustang. Horrible horrible cars.

I've given him all the feedback from here and so far it has gone in one ear and out the other! I guess I will just have to remind him who is BOSS when he gets home

Cheers for all the advice.
