I live there. It's not cheap, but it is nice and very convenient for my work/kids school/Marina reastaurants and bars etc. which is why we chose it. No more expensive than what we were paying in the UK though....

Bloody Hell! You were paying over GBP3,000 per month for rented accommodation in the UK? Its obviously been a very long time since I was back home.

its miles away from where I work in Deira, and we only went there at night, but I did like the look of it, tennis courts, pool etc - is it all villas there? no flats or apartments?

Nope, for a mortgage - and it was less than the equivalent of AED 300K. I'm not paying anywhere near 300K in the Lakes either - managed to get a good deal for one of the Maeen villas. Didn't realise how lucky we were at the time, but do now. Like I said, not cheap, but we like it a lot so decided that we were prepared to pay for the location/accessibility etc.

All villas - correct. The tennis courts/pool etc are all part of the clubhouse/Hayya!. It has a licensed bar there as well - staggering distance from home - which is handy! It's about the same price as you would pay for a family membership at a decent gym/club type thing back in the UK, and a damned site less expensive than most of the beach clubs we have looked at.
