Re: bank accounts
yes you can pay a stirling cheque into a dubai account, it takes a while to clear and you get it at the current exchange rate.

Re: bank accounts
Is transferring easy to do? Also no cash travelling, why danger of being robbed?

Re: bank accounts
- firstly, yep there are atms here, you can withdraw from your uk account.
- secondly, open a Lloyds account in the UK, transfer all the cash to your lloyds UAE (or offshore) bank here.
- thirdly, it's highly unlikely you'll get robbed/mugged but if you're travelling with loads of cash, just send me a photo and details of the flight you're on and I'll make sure no one else knows...

Re: bank accounts
Wish I had the sort of cash to make it worth while me laundering anything, my idea of laundering cash is washing a fiver in back pocket of my jeans. We have about 20k savings set aside for Dubai(after car sales) which wil use to buy a lap top, join gyms get mobile by a car and motor bike for him. Just wondered how easy it would be to buy these items with our UK money.
Flight is via private jet so dont know flight plan yet!
Thanks Julie

Agree with MJC re setting up an a/c with Lloyds. You should set up a local a/c with Lloyds over there. Then you can either set up the offshore a/c whilst in the UK or over here (easier over here, they do all the paperwork for you). Then you get online banking and when you log in you can also see your UK a/c as well and can easily transfer the money between the two accounts.
If you want to earn interest on some of your money here, Lloyds have a high interest deposit a/c and you can have the money roll over either weekly, monthly or annually. If weekly you can give just a couple of days notice to get your hands on your money without penalty. You need to have a minimum of 20,000dhs in the a/c.

Re: bank accounts
DH is a lover of bikes and needless to say I was strongly against him getting one here. I gave him a figure I wanted him to have as life insurance and needless to say he soon went off the idea
If your hubby wants a bike, how about Moto X? DH has just recently taken this up and is happy with it. Riding a bike here does not give the same pleasure as in the UK; no windy roads etc and in the summer it is just too hot.

Re: bank accounts
He is a good rider (bit crazy) I think he will join a bike group (Dubai petrolheads or something) Dont think I will dissuade him no matter how mad driving is, we did encounter driving whilst we were out there didnt put him off. Hubby has oil in veins loves autos more than people etc . Yes he does have life insurance.
Thanks Julie.

Re: bank accounts
Is it possible to open a bank account in Dubai, with a UAE bank, whilst residing in the UK?
Just makes things easier to have a bank account in Dubai before I move there.
