Bahrain living?
Hi all
My husband is thinking about taking a job offer in Bahrain, but after all the trouble over there I'm unsure. Also, we have a great life in Dubai, been here for 5 years now and although the money in Bahrain is much better we're unsure if our lifestyle will be as fulfilling. As long as there is a good expat community we'll be happy and can make regular trips to Dubai, but having not spent much time in Bahrain I'm really unsure about it. We have friends who lived there about 10 years ago and loved it, but I'm sure it's changed a bit since then.
Some advice from those living there would be appreciated, also an idea of nice areas to live would be handy.
Thanks!!

Unless you need the cash and I guess you don't, then stay in Dubai. Its a no brainer really.
If you do need the cash but you want to spend some of it on typical expat living then look for a place in Adliya or Amwaj. The latter does have more than its fair share of clicky up themselves expats but is totally remote from any mither
The former is handy for all the expat places you want to go but less of the up themselves expats.
Your choice but I would stay in Dubai. Ask Norsk as well as he has just done the reverse move and will be able to way up the pros and cons of both.

Welcome to BE and good luck!
Though I'd suggest having a search, Bahrain has come up a fair bit recently, with some decent info to get you going

You say there is more money involved, but are we talking let's say 20-30% increase. It is a lot cheaper to live in Bahrain so you'll be able to save of course, but it is definitely not on the same scale as Dubai in terms of things to do. I enjoyed living in Bahrain for a couple of years, it is a great place when it is peaceful, but right now I don't think it's the right time to go there. Especially if you have a family! I mean, I wouldn't mind putting myself in harms way, but I would never put my family in a position where I was worried about their safety!
As long as the choppers are flying, the riot police are on the streets and the smell of teargas in the air I wouldn't consider going back anytime soon.
On the other hand you would finally experience some Arab culture if you moved to Bahrain. The locals are friendly (when they're not out fighting the police) and you may actually find yourself with a few Bahraini friends..

I would tell your husband to keep thinking!! If you have a great life in Dubai then crack on and don't muddy the waters by coming here!!

Re: Bahrain living?
Thanks for all the replies. A lot to think about but good to hear some idea of areas to look to live if we did end up there.
