Re: bahrain??
if you're single its easy to put in those kind of hours...anything else its called stupid....anyway, i don't understand why you can't get it all done in 5.
...i'm also in construction- i do 5........almost always the discipline of getting in a decent weekend pays off - because on sunday (our monday) the whole job has invariably changed....again!

I work in the construction industry and am currently working 6 days a week and stupid hours! It seems the way it is over here. Just make sure he gets a good package to reflect the crap hours and days. The only reason we get Friday off is because it is against religious laws to work!!

Re: bahrain??
fair enough- i try not to wipe everyone's ar*es. They get 1 email/call- if they don't do it i make sure there's a paper trail that leads swiftly "do not pass go" to the person that will kick their ar*e.
if they can't do it because they don't have the skills i still don't help much...the person who owns the 'system' - thats his/her problem...they want their business to run, they fix it,...i'm no superman. as you can see i'm not your dream co-worker, but mostly seem to get along fine with everyone ;)....i think

Re: bahrain??
Been in Bahrain for a month now and even though I don't know many people yet I'm really enjoying it, I know I'll be here for a long time. Locals are friendly and very helpful.

are there any areas you would recomend to live?? They are desperate for good people in all areas of construction - especially in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. My advice would be to investigate other companies / recruitment agencies and hold fire until you get a better offer with better working conditions. Construction out here is hard enough - 7-day weeks would be a recipe for a premature heart attack. You must have time off to enjoy your weekends otherwise what is the point in being here? PM me if you like and i can pass on some recruitment company details. |

There is no way you should have to settle for 7-days a week - especially out here. The worst situation should be 6-day weeks.

are there any areas you would recomend to live?? It is more laid back than Dubai, people are very friendly. It is a fairly small place , we used to fly over to Dubai once a month for a weekend away. |

For single people, near town (Manama) may be better. Juffair is apartment city, but not many shops apart from a few, including a large supermarket, near the US naval base. If you are not near these, you will be driving for everything. Adliya is another option - walking distance to shops and restaurants etc, but parking difficult and traffic congestion at times. I lived in both Adliya and Juffair and both were good in there different ways. |
