So, if it's the Prophet's birthday on the 24th then surely that would indicate that it will be "dry" from the evening of the 23rd until the evening of the 24th?
Here in MCT the ROP have yet to declare when it will be dry but it's quite possible that it could be from the evening of the 23rd until lunchtime on Saturday, 26th as, if the "dry" day falls on a Thursday they simply roll it through the Friday as well as it's the Holy day and alcohol isn't served until after 2pm on Fridays anyway.

Christmas Day is not dry, the night of 23rd is.
Islamic days start at sunset so it'll be dry from the evening of Wednesday 23rd until around 7pm on Thursday 24th - exactly as predicted here some time ago.
It's almost invariably profit over prophet and the hotels don't want to lose the Christmas brunch business.

Ah well, stand corrected. Thousands of relieved expats all over Dubai.
Not that I'll be here one way or another. Happy Christmas, all!

Bars, hotels and restaurants in Dubai will not serve alcohol between December 22 and 23, as the UAE marks the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed.
Licensed premises will not serve alcohol between 5pm on December 22 and 6.30pm the following day, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing said in a circular.
There are no restrictions planned for December 24, which is a public and private sector holiday given to mark the Prophet’s birthday.
It's amazing how things get moved around to satisfy the tourist dollar.

I've just popped back to say they've moved the dry night back. Funny that...

Someone of suitably good character must have spotted the new moon a day earlier

So 22nd - 23rd is now dry?
Am I right in thinking the airport won't be dry? I fly at 0300ish on 23rd and really enjoy my pre-flight drinks.

One of the things I love about having moved to Malaysia: I get the 24th off, AND the 25th, for both birthdays
