I'm planning on buying a second-hand car from an individual.

Do I need insurance before the transaction is complete?

Also, can anyone recommend an insurance company?

You can transfer the current insurance with the current owner to yourself or you can get yourself another policy.

Depending on how old the car is also depends on what type of insurance you can get.

Yes mine - we are the only chartered brokers in the region. I am in a different dept (life and investments) but I can pass your details on to our general insurance dept if you PM them to me.
