As nobody else has bothered to reply, I thought a few words might be appropriate. Over here, the term "au pair" is hardly ever used. Yes, occasionally you find Eastern Europeans or western teenagers offering such services on the internet, but most families here simply rely on their nanny/housemaid usually from East or South Asia costing peanuts in comparison. Once your domestic helper has been with you a few months, she can usually be trusted to look after the children if you want to go out for the evening. Hope this helps.

there are a few European Nannies around though, I am sure if you wanted to bring someone with you, you could, but you would have to sponsor them etc, saying that you would have to sponsor any full time help that you want now.

yes proper Nannies - 60 an hour I think is what they charge, there are a few on EW, but I have also heard of girls who have brought in Au Pairs as well

there are different reasons for people to have an Au Pair. We found that it is very cheap way for children to learn languages. We only invite girls from germany so that the children learn German (and me as well!) and not for house help. They also were helping with playing musical instruments at home. It depends what they are currently studying:music, art etc...

it sounds like a fab thing to do for your kids but I am not sure how well it would work here, with getting her a visa etc
