Surely it's coated with some kind of fire retardant, it can't be sold with the possibility of a stray cigarette kicking off a full scorched earth result.

Going on the rough dimensions of the balcony it would be about 13.5 tonnes of water.

Thats only about 150 Scamps.

We need to run the calculations past weasel but as it will be a mostly static load, I think it’s within design spec.

I'm sure those balconies are massively over designed, and then the massively over constructed. I'm struggling to see what can go wrong

Putting on the old engineering hat, cantilever balconies used to be designed to 4kn/m2, not sure what the reg in UAE is anymore but at the time it was more than twice the regular floor load. You'd get at least 400mm of water before the collapse However I'm sure the cracks in the balcony which appear as you overload it will serve to drain the water so acting like an inbuilt safety device

So you're saying I shouldn't fill my balcony with water to make a pool?

Nah, using a factor of safety of 1.3 and WD's figures you can fill to just under 3,100mm depth...., although you would need to take into account the mass of any pool attendees, inflatables etc. Oh and keep an ear our. Creaking is generally not considered good.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

You can buy outdoor carpet, doesnt have to be astroturf, a nice prayer mat design maybe :-). Costco sell them if you have that.
