Default Assistant Professor Package

Hi,

I have just applied for an Assistant Professor position at the UAE University to start in September 2008, and would like please to know if anybody have an idea on what employment package to expect, such as salary, housing, etc, in comparison for example with other institutions in the region. Concerning the housing: is it inside the campus or in town? I am trying to be ready once an offer is hopefully made.

I thank you in advance for your help.

Sandy

Yes, I did. But, my feeling is that most users there are English Teachers/Professors, and my topic is in the sciences.

Cheers,
Sandy

UAEU is the most established(1976 I think) and has over 15k students over wide ranging curricula.Other unis : ADU;Zayed University& HCT- Have a look at their websites for comparisons as staff turnover seems to be regular therefore all advertising positions.
SYB, on here, is in academia & may be able to help you further.
Al Ain is a nice place -and housing although rising, is cheaper to rent than AD & DXB

Good luck

You should be looking at a salary of 16-22k, accom allowance 90K (single) 120K (with kids), flights once a year, medical, schooling allowance (max 85K) plus gratuity.... The housing is, I believe, in the town - don't think they have on-campus accom. Al Ain is a small town anyhows...

Lot of people unhappy with academic salaries here - other gulf states are offering around 30K Dh + same benefits.... HCT people are leaving in droves!!!

Thanks for the info. I hear that UAEU is currently in the process of reforming salaries, but not sure...

There is a 15% pay increase for all HCT faculty effective Aug this year; I imagine the same will apply to ZU and UAEU....
