Areas to live Abu Dhabi
 

Ok well i have searched the forums and not found anything. So the question is this, i am looking at property for 150K AED which is paid by the employer, i have looked at MBZ, large properties at good prices, Khalifa A close to Yas island nice properties bit pricer compared to MBZ and finally the Al Reef.

Now in terms of cost you seem to get more for your money in MBZ than you do in Al Reef or Khalifa A. I am looking for nice area to live with good community spirit, so the wife and kids have people to socialise with while i am working. Preferably with private pool although this is NOT a pre requisite, with nice size garden in the rear and at least 4 bedrooms.

Now while i am more than capable of finding the property, what i am not able to do is tell if the areas i am looking in are nice places to live. Yes i have seen alot about Al Reef and they seem to have a nice little community thing going on, but the only properties that have private pools are 5 beds and over my 150k.

What i cant find is anything to do with the other two areas? so if anyone can help out with brief guide on what the areas are like to live in for a family of 4 with two teenagers one 18 year old daughter, and 16 year old son. I would really appreciate it.

know of a place in kcb for like 150k but you will not find anywhere a villa with a private pool for that money.

I have found a few, but its not the property thats the issue, its more about what the areas are like to live in as an expat, but thanks for the reply

I'd pay the difference and move somewhere like al reem. Apartments, but you have a pool, maybe a tennis court, and neighbours. Taxis, and you're not half an hour away from the rest of the city.

Dannyr42, your issue will be your children and how far they need to go to socialise - particularly if they want to use taxis. Which school will they be going to? I'd look there first, and as seven seas suggests, if it means living in an apartment that's not such a bad thing.

I am not here and only just getting to grips with the areas. Have you checked out schools. A friend of ours has just gone and is putting some extra towards his sons school but the child has to pass an exam to get in. He is going to Al Reem but with only one child they can manage with an apt

I like Etihad tower in Al Bateen. We only need a 2 bed apt as there is only the two of us.

that will be repton or bcad then selective schools. you will find the 2 beds are the worse to find being most popular you pay more for them really.

Might be a bit late here, but as far as both the areas are concerned your issue is that both KCA and MBZ are largely made up of either single villas or small compounds, so both areas lack the community feel that Al Reef has.

Until relatively recently MBZ wasn't really populated by expats as such and theres been a lot of development there the last couple of years, when I lived there 2 years ago it was still very much a WIP, we lived in a compound of 10 houses with a private pool for 175k, there is really nothing much to do down there and your kids will cost you a fortune in taxis (if you can get one) heading into town. KCA is a bit more of a mature area, it has some larger compounds and the expats have flooded to that area this last 2 years or so, due to the more house for your money rule and also the opening of various supermarkets and other amenities around Raha, Bandar and Yas etc and a number of new schools have drawn people in so I think you'd be happier there roughly speaking. It would be easier than living in MBZ and there are buses that run through KCA, MBZ has buses as well but best avoided.

It's a tough one, as others have said assuming kids are in school that usually makes the decision as traffic I hear has gone a bit mental.

Just chipping in this is well, beware the running costs of a villa, the summer bills will bring a tear to your eye and will eat a significant bit of your budget for about 4-5 months of the year, check that AC's can be switched on separately and try to find a villa that doesn't have too much of an open plan thing going on as those are extra hard to cool.

Overall we had a lovely villa in MBZ but it was a hassle to go out to the pub, taxis were hard to find unless you live in extremely close proximity to Mazayed Mall ( the mall has a decent supermarket but I still ended up running up to Spinneys in Officers City all the time), often we just drove to the mall, left my car there and got a taxi into town, nowhere to speak of to pop out for a quick bite to eat either, KCA is better equipped in that area as well.
