Aramex in Doha
Done a quick search and nothing comes up about people using them. Reason for the question is that went into their site to change my details to Qatar and saw what I took to be common practice that they will apply 5% duty on anything you bring in at over 400qr and it may still be levied if the customs people feel that an item below that amount should actually be above 400QR.
Also heard from my wife, from one of the coffee mornings you women seem to like so much, that a family who recently arrived are being hit with a massive charge for their personal possessions be shipped in, which they are refusing to pay, so everything is now stuck in customs. Just can't wait to get my stuff out of Riyadh, if the idiots that are arranging the shipping get their act together and actually do something!
Ramble over and back to the question, does anybody use Aramex and do they get stung on anything bought and shipped in.
First coffee of the day was rather strong so finding it hard to focus

Goods inside the GCC should have been in free circulation and have paid the 5% at the first port of entry, the goods need to be inspected before leaving RUH and have the Bill of Entry marked as such. They will be an inpection charge which is 210 Dhs in Dubai and the goods should then get into Qatar. They may also require more docs and the Qatar Customs are very hard work. You should not have to pay 5% on personal affects anywhere in the GCC but they can and will make up rules as and when they please.
Good luck.
Aramex are as good as anyone else in teh GCC but not Persaonal goods specialists.
Good luck.

The duty is true anywhere in the Gulf (5% is harmonized across the region). The same rules apply, for instance, in the UAE. In practice it depends whether customs decide to stop your particular item or not, though in theory they could stop and check any incoming shipment.

The reason I ask is that I never paid any duty while in Saudi and wondered whether they tended to be more strict here.

Depends which way the wind's blowing, really. There are no hard and fast rules with anything in Doha, but you're beginning to get the idea

I ship goods all over the ME and the Qataris are the biggest problems we have. The rules change with their hormones
