Apatment Lease w/o advanced checks?
Hello,
I know that this question probably has been answered numerous times. However, please help with some tips/hints of how to find an apartment around Dubai Marina or JLT without giving landlords advanced checks.
We had a bad experience in the past where landlord refused to hand us back our checks even with a 60 days notice of termination due to job loss. We refuse to deal with small RE agent as they don't seem to provide any services once the lease contract is done. Here goes my 5% commission!
Being said that, I wish to find an apt even to pay 2 to 3 months cash in advance without handing them checks.
Any comments/tips/hints greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Agents just act on behalf of the Landlord - if the Landlord wants to be paid in, say, 2 cheques, then that is his decision.
See if you can find any apartments where you can pay in 4/6/12 cheques or some number like to that, to avoid the risk.
I'm a Property Advisor myself, and, while most agents do not offer any additional services after collecting their 5% commission, that's not to say we're all the same!
