Any Arabic speakers / writers on here?

Re: Any Arabic speakers / writers on here?
Much as I am going to regret this, I can confirm what seven sucks says in this instance.
We initially attempted to get documents and presentations done in-house. The Egyptian engineer would disagree with Syrian accountant who would disagree with the Palestinian PA about how to phrase, spell and prose things. The local client would then send the whole thing back and ask us to try again.
Only way to do anything high level is to use a local well educated professional translator. Especially if its a legal document.

mwap wap waaaaa-aaap!!
(wobbly sound effect there)
Why would an engineer/accountant/PA know how to translate?
There's a joke about a company with Egyptian engineers, Syrian accountants and Palestinian PAs....

Rumi, ya akhee, Rumi.......
Get with the mystic vibe, dude!
Love is not condescension, never
that, nor books, nor any marking
on paper, nor what people say of
each other. Love is a tree with
branches reaching into eternity
and roots set deep in eternity,
and no trunk! Have you seen it?
The mind cannot. Your desiring
cannot. The longing you feel for
this loves comes from inside you.
When you become the Friend, your
longing will be as the man in
the ocean who holds to a piece of
wood. Eventually, wood, man, and
oceans become one swaying being,
shams Tabriz, the secret of God.
Lovely enjambment in the English translation.... less sure about the weak feminine endings (got knows there's been enough of them for one goddam lifetime!!!!).
BTW - TBH my Farsi, like my Arabic, sucks like a hoover. But a wonderful language for poetry - like the Romance languages, it lends itself to a fluency that belies English translation (the quatrain could never have been an English invention - its reliance on rhyme and rhythm is utterly incompatible with the stoccatto nature of English. And they call the Semetic Languages guttural?????....

Yeah mate , they would though wouldn't they?
I'm surprised, I thought you'd be more aware about different levels of language ability than that.
It's just like asking a butcher to change your brake pads.
As for the joke, f**ked if I'd hire that lot though...

Re: Any Arabic speakers / writers on here?
That's a bit rich coming fropm someone whose culture includes a grand total of ONE native herb, and considers boiled cabbage to be fit for human consumption.
Anyone care to comment on the similarities between 'good' food in the UK and shit?
Apart from that, I wouldn't trust any Arabic speaker - not even translators- to get it right. The standards of Arabic as well as English are well below average. And very few Arabs are really bilingual, in the way many Europeans are.
Translation isn't something that just anyone can do, with the help of a dictionary. It takes an ear for language, cultural understanding and an appreciation for extremely subtle differences in meaning.
Euc- that's because short vowels aren't written in Arabic, so a simple name like John looks just like Joan and June. Patrick can be written four different ways. How do we spell Mohammed/Muhammed/Mohammad/Muhammad? Same story. There isn't a one-to-one match between all sounds in all languages, just as there isn't a one-to-one lexical relationship when it comes to words.
