No they can't jail you - if they even find them, as they were taken outside of the country. Precedent has been set numerous times with people who use cannabis while outside of the country - where it's legal, even though they have traces in their blood doesn't make them guilty.

Yes, they can jail you. That does not mean they will. The UAE has a different judicial system and legal tradition to the UK.

Famously, the UAE legal system does not use precedents. Each individual case is subject to the judgement of the presiding court/judge. This is one of the main reasons why judgements can appear so random and unpredictable and why so many people and institutions prefer to find other routes to have matters adjudicated wherever possible.

If the anti-depressant drugs contain items on the banned list, yes, as being in your bloodstream counts as "possession."

However, when they do blood screenings (ie at immigration) they are not looking for that, so I find it unlikely there will be any problems unless you happen to bring in a banned substance and get searched for some reason. At that point there would probably be a blood screening that does look for agents on the banned list.

Who is doing the blood test and what is the stated purpose? Analytical testing is extremely complex and costly. Normally they are testing for a very specific item or list of items. Then its a yes or no check on whether the spectral peaks match the profile of any of the indicated items or an antibody test in the case of diseases.

If it is not something they are specifically looking for then it is highly unlikely they would find anything unless they are doing an unusually thorough screening for some reason. Even in that case they would need to try and match any unusual peaks in your blood to some reference database of chemicals and substances. Then further confirmatory analysis would be required to validate especially for complex organic compounds and mixtures like drugs. Would they be specifically looking for this type of anti-depressant for any reason? If it's not on a list of things that they are looking for then I would think you will be ok.

This is what I was alluding to, Miss Ann Thorpe explained it much better and clearer than I could. The initial immigration blood screening is looking for a few things, I forget what exactly but HIV is one of them. So it's not likely if you took anti-depressants in the UK that it would come up in the blood screening at immigration, unless the purpose of your blood screening is for something else/being done by someone else.

I'm aware of that, however you go high enough up the appeals system and your lawyer states the numerous cases where the guy with cannabis in his bloodstream has been let off as it never happened in the UAE, then there won't be a case to answer.

Do they arrest people who have had sex in the UK when not married? Of course not. It's exactly the same thing (but slightly easier to prove).

I do wish people would understand the UAE Legal System.
