Annoying error
I get this error a lot when trying to get on the bored:
"Network Error (tcp_error) A communication error occurred: "" The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time." Anyone help? |

Re: Annoying error
i've seen this a million times since moving to saudi. the error message implies that there is a problem on the server side, but usually this is due to a network transport error (ie gateway, dns, proxy, connection to internet) on the user side.
so why is it happening? well, the simple answer is that the networks in the region are absolutely sub-standard in terms of quality and capacity. unless there is something wrong with your computer or the setup of your internet connection (ie modem/router) there isn't a hell of a lot you can do to fix it... by the way, what was the magic fix from MM? use google dns or something like that? |

Re: Annoying error
I've seen it all over the place: Bahrain, Saudi, Abu Dhabi. It is, as someone said above, a result of the crappy networks over here. For the technically minded, a way of overcoming the issue is to use the IP address of the site you're trying to reach, rather than the URL. You can get the IP address by pinging the URL from a command prompt.

for all you google dns users this isn't an optimal solution. you could experience that all websites that are using a CDN solution (some examples are facebook, itunes, bbc iplayer, and hulu) are a lot slower than if you use your ISP's DNS servers. this is because CDN's send you content from the server closest to your DNS server (and if this is google) then the server is likely much further away than the closest one to you and also likely gets a lot more traffic (due to other google dns users). |

http://www.opendns.com/ but that's a good DNS alternate to google, it just happens that Google is much easier to remember. |
