Amazon

Hi
How long does it take for books, dvd's/cd's to come from Amazon?
Are there any import charges at customs?
Can you use an AE credit card or would I have to use my UK one?
Does it make any difference using Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com for delivery speed?

Thanks

I haven't had anything delivered over here as i'm told the postal service is appalling, although I'm sure bluecat says she orders things from them.

Your credit card should be fine as long as its mastercard, visa etc

I have used it in the past - just a few books, nothing that would matter too much if it went missing. Everything turned up fine and quite quick from Amazon.co.uk. I don't think it matters if you use UAE or UK credit card.

If your getting a lot or want to do it regularly I think there are things called drop box services that Aramex and DHL do - this gives you your own PO Box in the US (or UK) that you have the packages sent to (cheaper delivery charge obv.) - the courier then ships it via courier to your UAE address rather than trust EMpost here.

I've not tried it - but seems like a good service if you buy things regularly...

Mate - you post crap about your flacid member and think it is somehow relevant yet this poster asks a perfectly valid question and you launch back with that...

Grow up.

I order from Amazon US and get delivery through Shop and Ship rather than directly - only once have I had to pay customs charges. I usually count on two weeks for delivery.

Shop and Ship - I think that was what I meant - how does this work and who does the shipping, what's the cost etc... is there insurance for damages?

Cheers!

You get a mailing address in the US and UK in return for a start-up fee. Then you pay for shipments you receive by size and weight. It costs $8 for the first 0.5kg (not actual weight, weight calcuated taking size into account - the formula is on the site) and $5 for each 0.5kg after that. They ship stuff twice a week.

Aramex do the shipping themselves. There is insurance but it's limited - $250 I think? Worth checking anyway. The service varies a lot but it hasn't lost anything yet!
