Alcohol - That old chestnut

Re: Alcohol - That old chestnut
Hello all
I am a new joiner who is currently weighing up the prospects of moving to Dubai. This is an excellent forum to conduct research but there is one issue on which I am not quite clear.
Booze - I'm aware of the requirement for ex-pats to obtain a licence but here's the kicker....although I'm born and raised in England, I'm of Muslim descent. From what I can find out so far, the alcohol licence is only available to non-muslims.
So my question is effectively - Are there any ways around this so I can be treated just like any other expat?!
I have seen references to having to register if you are a muslim but I would put my faith down as Agnostic and hope to get a licence that way. Although my name (and face!) would give it away, I'm wondering how strictly this aspect of the law is enforced against non-practicing muslims!
Any help would be much appreciated. don't much fancy going on the wagon for a few years!

Keep in mind there are many Arab christians so if you name might not be an issue.
Aside from changing your name I am not sure what you can do to lower the risk of being investigated (which you don't want). Dubai's not all it's cracked up to be...have a look at other options too.

Can't do that over here in the Magic Kingdom, Spugsy - they don't recognise that concept.
They classify me by my 'religion', even though I don't have one and never will. On all my documents, visa, etc, I'm a Christian..........
.......... and not a very good advert for one, I'm sorry to say............

It's little things like pigeonholing everyone by belief (like it or not) that keeps places like this from entering the 21st Century.

Yeah, likewise; also classed as a Christian. I used to be an atheist, but now I don't believe in all that crap.
Oh, and Dubai without booze is like ehm, er, hmmm, good question, could be, no; not that, ummm, no sorry, all that booze is affecting my ability to think.
