Re: Al Barsha...
Moving again?
I don't live in Al Barsha but spend a fair amount of time there thanks to friends who share one of the humongous villas.
What's wrong with C4 or Lulu's for groceries? There are a few small corner markets scattered about the apartment buildings behind the mall. That area is beginning to come into its own with a bunch of new restaurants open or shortly opening. I rather like "downtown Al Barsha" because its a living version of Legoland. Oh, speaking of which, while looking at Pinky's store I noticed that one of the new restaurants about to open is "Pakistani-Italian." Kid you not.
Not a clue about a new mall being built.
Park'n'Shop is opening a branch in Tecom.
Choithrams has a market in the Greens.

Not sure when the Al Barsha mall will open. Lots of small shops around and Choitrioms/spinneys only 5/10min drive down Al Wasl.

Re: Al Barsha...
Haven't heard of an Al Barsha Mall under construction - nothing in skyscrapercity.com for Dubai that I could find. MoE is listed as located in Al Barsha and it is undergoing an AED 500 milion expansion though.

Re: Al Barsha...
got a client who's interested in Al Barsha but wants to know if they can walk to the shops, not sure if there were small supermarkets around in the villa areas (so not the bit where the apartment buildings are) just for some day to day stuff...think it's fair to say you'd need a car?

Re: Al Barsha...
Sorry. Misread your implication.
There are corner shops scattered around the residential areas, attached to the mosques. There is a complex of villas right next to the 'downtown' area that would be walkable, but most of the area is not set up for ease of walking to shopping areas. Very few places in Dubai are.

there is, but when driving past it I don't have enough time to see what it says on the sign or board or whatever it's called...

Lots of nice takeaway restaurants in the area.
Prices are coming down, a 4 bedroom with pool and large garden (similiar size to mine) is about 220K maybe even less this year.
I like the feel of Al Barsha, no close neighbours, big walls, big gardens and lovely and quiet.

Re: Al Barsha...
The big hole in the ground next to MOE will be another MALL.
The hole between Dunes and MOE.
MOE is having an extension, and almost finished. More of the same, inc more parking.
There are many little shops and very nice restaurants already open in Albarsha 1.
I fear that some of the shops will not last long, a ladies dress shop has been onen for 3 months, and had perhaps 10 customers. There are several specialist shops that should do well.
Barons Hotel,, the first I think to open has closed already.
LuLu is a very under rated outlet, I prefer to C4, better prices, and never as busy.
From the villa areas you need a car, or the telephone numbers for delivery, (all little shops deliver, even the PORK shop.)
There are shuttle busses that run past to the MOE, and these are all listed on the RTA web site. Even maids use them, my gardener does too.
The paid for parking in MOE was introduced to eliminate day parking for the Merto clients, they all just park on the waste ground around the mall.
I live in RAK, and have a crash pad in Al Barsha, next to LULU and MOE, very very convenient.
