Apart from the Gulf News part. Most of their so-called news is simply toeing the government line, c&p from Reuters to written by people whose 4th language is some form of mangled English. Read The National if you want a proper newspaper.

Thanks for that, Bluecat. He's a management accountant and had a call from a headhunter, so this was a bit unexpected and while we're open to it, we just want a bit more info as to cost of living.

well I am not sure to be honest with you, but just make sure you get a good package that covers the following

Accomodation - an allowance of about 150k will get you a three bed on the Springs
Airfares
Medical Insurance
School fees - if you need them in future
Company Car
Mobile Phone
Decent Salary (that is really down to the individual)

See what they offer him and then get back to us ;)

Thanks Bluecat.
I've just started a thread explaining the whole situation, as after reading a few posts on this forum, we really don't know what to think now!

One more advise, don't fall into Dubai "lifestyle". Stay away from Brunches, otherwise it will turn into a habit and And don't use credit cards - it is a necessity though to book tickets etc. have only 1 card.

Step away from the brunch!!!!! lol you make it sound like a drug!!
Brunches are lovely and there are prices to suit every pocket from 550dhs down to 90dhs.

Absolutely right Patsy!

No point in living without having some fun, although it doesn't have to be pricey. Brunches are a Dubai institution. You just don't have to do them every week (unless you really want to!!).

Newbie - SOS

Well I guess that I qualify as a Newbie, having arrived in Sharjah in the last few days!
The empty apartment I was given in is on Buhaira Corniche, but I haven’t got a clue where I should be going to meet other internationals.
So where do single guys who are reasonably funny and who like a drink go to in this town???
As I don’t know anyone here it would be good to have an idea about any groups, clubs or meet up in the area that are newbie friendly!
I would really appreciate getting an invite as I have spent the last few days between IKEA and the empty roof pool.
<<snip - pm for contact details>>
