Smile Advice needed on Tradesman in Dubai!!

Hi ladies and gents

I have my own company and we specialise in venetian marble polished plastering, We have spent last few months trying to contact architechs and interior designers who may wish to use us for projects going on in dubai.
I had a contact who was working in dubai and is still there who told me few months back that there is a high demand for the work i do out there and all he did was meet the right person at the right time who happened to be an architech who wanted to use his work on major projects in dubai and abu dhabi unfortunatley i have lost all his contact details.

Is anyone on here an architech or interior designer working in dubai who thinks they may be able to use some of our work on there projects as we are available immediatley to visit dubai to discuss any plans - i no this is a long shot but we are so eager to come to dubai to work.

The other option we had was to take that leap of faith and book a flight to dubai with the hope of meeting some contacts who could give us work.

If anyone thinks they may be able to help and advise then please do.my email address is <<snip - pm instead>>.

We are with out doubt very good at what we do, very passionate as is to be expected and would be a great help if anyone could help us.

cheers
paul

have a search through the forums...not easy setting up business out there, which is what you'll need to do, because trades work get treated like poo and the pay is rubbish, sub continent do the work for peanuts and work way more hours than you'd want to, making it hard to compete on that level...

but someone i met who was on a rest bite when he came back to uk few months back said he got in with a british architech went out to dubai and is earning really good money taking £2500 per week as a minimum. Its not normal plastering and is highly skilled as there are not to many companys that specialise in venetian plastering. He works in dubai for 3 months of the year and rest of time is spent with his family. I would mainly be looking for sub contracted work.

then find his contact details...because it's a rare find trades people aren't paid crap and living in a camp rather than somewhere nice, not to mention the hassle of finding a short term rental for just 3 months...

isnt it illegal to come over for 3 months and work, visas and all that. You are not allowed to work on a tourist visa, and also the fact that they are changing the rules as of next month, think that little loophole may be closing.

Absolutely tonnes of people work on visit visa. We have service engineers coming and going all the time. To the op- dont worry about it for the first 3 months anyway by the law it is illegal.

Paul,

Two things. We are all earning 2500 GBP per week minimum - believe us as you believed your mate.

Secondly you need to investigate the market by looking for the developers and architects and , as you would be working as a subcontactor get them to advise on the names of main Venetian Plastering contractors or just phone a few normal plasterers and ask for info on your own specialism. They are building the Worls at present and have not yet started on Italy or wherever Venice is - so your still in with a chance.

By the way, what is Venetian Plastering?

To the OP, rather than hoping that other people are going to gift you some contact, you really need to be getting off your arse and investing a little bit of time and money to get yourself over here for a week or so and look for the work yourself.

If its high end work on high end properties, you need to be speaking to developers building those kind of properties, so that you can get your venetian plastering as a specified part of their properties finish.
That won't give you work straight away, but could prove lucrative in the medium to long term.

Shit & JeeZZ - I wish I'd said it that way! And said nothing about Essex!

Good luck op in your quest for plastering opportunities but try and avoid the Meridian Hotel at present as plastering associated activity has too high a profile.

what i mean is that of course people come over on a visit visa to work, and then the visa is changed to an employment visa etc, but if you come over for 3 months of the year to 'earn big bucks' and then go back to the uk and then come back over for another 3 months etc then that is what i was trying to say, also how many days can you be out of the country before being classed as resident and so therefore liable for tax?

i see what you are saying, that is a UK tax issue though and not a UAE visa issue..i know plenty of people who have been here a few years on 'visa runs'

can only be in the uk less than 90 days a year including exit and entry days. In a whole tax year. But it is far more complicated than that.

The OP needs to do a bit of work on his plans..
