Advice needed
Hi everyone,
New to this particular forum for Middle East.
Have been reading about Dubai alot and have been there on holidays previously, we are thinking of moving there and would appreciate some feedback regarding the following:
1 How easy is it to get jobs in Dental Nursing or as a Beauty Therapist(I have an international Qualification)?
2 My husband is a driving Instructor would there be any scope for him?
3 How long is the process of buying a property once you have chosen one?
4 Will we need both a residence visa and a separate work permit?
5 Have a 7 year old son and would appreciate some feedback from those who have moved from UK with children?
Many thanks
Sher

Mostly because there wage demands are a lot lower than western europeans.
It would seem a common theme. Unless your are in a niche field, or get recruited directly from the UK, most people will struggle to find work.
These are just my thoughts..anyone else know anything..Face ??
Any dentists or Driving instructors here ??

Thanks for a such a quick response Jammy Dodgers.
My aim was to apply to one of the new spas that will open or have opened in the Palms Jumeira and Palms Jabel Ali.
I have also worked as a Practice Manager for 9 yrs in a Doctors Surgery. (any suggestions in that field?)
Any thoughts on that?

Honestly. I'd think you'd struggle. As JD said most of that market is taken up by sub-continentals and south east Asians.
Even the ultra luxury spas (like at the Burj) are populated by Indians and Filippinos.
I also think a British driving instructor would have a nervous breakdown if he started teaching in Dubai! And while we are allowed to swap our licences over. I'd imagine it's a lot more complicated to get an instructors licence.
As for property...that's a whole other argument as to whether it is worth buying, or even worth buying at the moment. But if you did you would both get residency. The process can be lengthy I think.
If your husband finds work he can sponsor you and vice versa (I think)
Dubai is a very child friendly place.
Can you fit me in for a quick waxing?

Most of the girls that work in the spas are phillipino or eastern european unless possibly a managment position... but i doubt a job in that field would offer a package that includes school fees which average about £5000 a year plus housing which you would need a mimimum of say 7 or 8K and that would be pushing it to find something for a family.... You maybe be better of getting a local sponser and setting up your own business in that field.....
Not sure about practice managers or driving instructors.....
It is a great place to bring up children though very safe and loads for them to get involved in......

As far as im aware most jobs in dubai are taken by asians.
The only westerners here are either cabin crew, guru's/specialists in niche fields or on secondment from US/UK companies.

Re: Advice needed
The rules are that all businesses have to have a local (UAE national) as at least a 50% partner.
I don't think it's that difficult to find one who will set up a company as there are plenty of them awash with cash and literally doing nothing all day.

I think I have all the facts right here but some-one with a little more experience should confirm the numbers (the principal is right)...
Unless the company is based in one of the Free Zones expats currentley cannot "own" (or be the major shareholder) in a business here. Therefore to operate a business you require a local sponsor or partner who will own a min of 51% of the company (although there is talk of laws being enacted to change this so that expats can be major shareholders and bring the UAE inline with WTO requirement).
How you would go about finding a sponsor I wouldn't know though, sorry...
