I am just gonna ask this directly because it's embarrassing but I want to find out.

My wife and I are planning to move out to Qatar (Doha) due to my work, and she wants to bring some adult toys. I am well aware of laws in Qatar against pornography, but do you know if this also applies to adult toys which do not remotely resemble human anatomy please? We would be getting stuff shipped in via a shipping agent, straight to the hotel where we will be staying for the first 8 weeks.

If it's just a small vibrating thing and some jiggle balls then you're almost better off taking them as hand luggage as you leave the UK, and putting them in your pocket (jacket, not the velvet one) on arrival.

Your bags will be scanned and they might be detected (maybe 10% chance) - nothing bad should happen (just confiscation), but would be stressful. If possible carry whatever it is in a coat pocket.

Tenga, not fleshlight. Also...back massager... Not remotely like human anatomy with no pornographic appearance or symbols, but not really small objects either. Not possible to store in pocket. I will be using an international removals company (airplane not ship) to move out some furniture and a computer...use them, maybe?

My own understanding is that such things generally are not allowed in Qatar. Certainly I do know that a friend who once tried to bring a number of non-electric toys was stopped and the items confiscated. I was able to carry in a small battery powered vibrator, no batteries, and though I was stopped I was also carrying a suitcase full of all sorts of tools and electronics which I think were the primary interest so it received no attention.

Of course if its something that's wearable, well...

I don't recall seeing back massagers (aka 'wands') for sale though you can certainly buy electric toothbrushes.

Its by far better to bring them in on yourself or with a tonne of other electrical stuff all packed closely.

I guess the verdict is it's better to just put them in my main checked baggage with other stuff then as they can't fit in my pocket? Hand-luggage out of the question on Doha entry.

I am however quite surprised that the best way isn't to put them with other stuff I am moving from UK to Doha; this stuff will arrive in a shipping container which will be entirely full of my stuff (e.g. my own random household items and books etc).

I’m not sure what happens now but 15 years ago every box in my container was opened and searched.
