ADSL Offer
Can anyone advise on ADSL subscription. I am about to install it at home (in Dubai), any recommendation will be helpfull (price, speed, WIFI modem, ...)

I pay 250dhs a month for what is meant to be the fastest connection and it's wireless. How fast it is in reality is fairly random - sometimes it's quick, other times its very slow. Good luck in getting it connected -it took Etisalat 8 weeks to sort it out for me! |

it takes me 2mins for B.E forum page to open up! never before it took me so quick.
when i went to etisalat to complain then there was a queue of people waiting to give their complains, for many the internet pages were not even opening! After hearing their stories i went back home! much happier. :) |

Good luck in getting it connected -it took Etisalat 8 weeks to sort it out for me! Took approx 8 days for installation to happen. To be honest compared to BT service I'm not too displeased... seems ok so far.... |

I'm paying Dh250/month for 1mb connection.
Downloading files you get full speed (usually) but html browsing is nowhere near that speed, mainly because of the proxies. When they're overloaded, you can expect dial-up speed at best. Don't buy the Etishite modems, pay for something like a USRobotics 9106, which is a combined DSL modem and wireless router. Works with Macs, PCs, even my Palm. It means one less plug, myriad less wires, and they're preconfigured with Etisalat's settings (just select UAE in the installer location list). The installation software also works with OSX fine. There may be an upgraded model of the 9106 now, I've had mine for a year or more. I cannot recommend it highly enough. |

One more question for Skype users : what is the reasonnable connexion speed to use Skype PC/PC and PC/telephone ? |
