Your headline is rather alarmist bearing in mind that the Courts awarded custody to the grandmother as opposed to the lad being physically snatched as your headline would suggest. Nevertheless I have still signed the petition.

As I read it the family tricked them into coming to Qatar and then filed a case against them so the kid couldn't leave the country..

I agree she had and has no chance of getting her child back, it was as good as kidnapping if the version of the story reported is 100% correct.

Taken away from his mother and she's been refused to see him since October 2nd. Most people would call that a kidnapping.
My first thought is that the child is presumably a British citizen and carries a British passport, no? I'm sure the embassy is involved somehow, but I have a feeling their influence is limited. That's why the petition is going around for it's the emir/sheikh/sultan/grand poompah that can say yes or no.
This is a perfect example of how if things go to the crapper for you in the Mid East, they get really, really, really bad really quickly.
