AD accommodation rental update
So after another weekend of trogging around looking for an alternative to Mrs DB's hotel room, we finally got a 1-bed flat in a villa across the road from Spinney's at Mangrove Village. A little tatty, but area seems nice and it'll do for a few months till I get over. We got it for 6 months at AED 10,000/mth.
Other stuff we looked at was split between Khalifa A and MBZ. Almost all were new villas which had either been already partitioned off into flats with some very strange layouts (2 bedrooms, kitchen and no living room!) or a complete villa where the agent said "No problem, we'll just build a wall across here to split the floor." These were also available for 6 months at around 60-65K (120-130K/yr) for 1 or 2-bed. To be honest, quality looked very poor with plasterboard dividing walls, bodged electrics and not much thought about where white goods will go.
Interesting couple of days and only shouted at an agent once!! (Idiot called Ibrahim)
By the way, out of interest we were shown a couple of nice townhouses in Raha Gardens going for about AED 230K (plus water/elec and a/c).

Sounds good. It's a good place to live and lots more things going on not too faraway at Shang,Fairmont & Traders.Hey, all ya have to do is pop into to Spinneys of a morning and get some real deals on furnishings for flat.
It might be worth contacting the Municipality, see if you can get a reduction on utilities fees given proximity of Lycra Lowbrow- in UK you'd defo get a discount in Council TaxGood luck in the new hacienda .

Thanks from the Mangrove posse!! She's in the villa with the bent palm tree outside.
Got to get the shippers in this week in Kuwait to send her some furnishings. How DO you fit a huge villa's worth of tat collected over 6 years into a 1-bed flat? Methinks some downsizing is on the cards.
