Further rumor I can confirm as fact today, Al Habtoor is also in the process of planning the dismantling *a number* of joint ventures in the UAE.

And they are also having nightmares getting paid which does not bode well.

Payment problems too on the world project and question marks over jumeriah gardens.

PS Thanks too for the advance warning BB - ignore the hot heads and the shoot messenger crew and keep up the good work
this is the prob that not only have people been fired the companies are not being paid by the developers of work they have already done, hence some companies are in dire financial difficulty.

200 is 10% of lor professional staff too so not minor.

BTW my source is impeccable too, but with the UAE being so small even a hint of where it comes from puts the person at risk.

And of course risks the person being angry at you if they see or hear of the post.

put her on ignore.

She is a complete drama queen who has nothing better to do than score points on forums. First and foremost, my thoughts are with the 200 families who are about to find themselves homeless in the next 4 weeks (still laughing BB2??) and secondly it is not the entire workforce which is what some people on here would have us all believe.

BB2 & mantronic, there are 100's, maybe even 1000's of people who are living in UAE who do not have the luxury to jump ship. Many people have school age children who cannot be uprooted on a whim, and have also invested in setting themselves for what they thought would be 5 to 10 years out here and certainly not ready to cut their losses on the prediction of some nobody on an expat forum.

I am sure the view from your ivory towers is wonderful, but remember, very few professions are exempt from being hit by the recession, and even if you are not directly hit, at some point, someone you care for (if you have any passion in your bones) will be.

For some perverted reason you seem to get off on the drama of it all, buy some porn and get over it.

Don't know why BB is - her husband works in construction so she could be affected too - maybe he's local hire though so they can afford to keep him.

BB is just reporting on facts. Hardly perverted. In fact she gave lor types a chance to make sure they were looking elsewhere or to plan exit strategies in advance. Helpful, which is actually fairly typical of BB in my experience on UAE forums.

Tansy, who im sure never helped anyone in her life, is the perverted one for jumping on BB for being the messenger, and more so for continuing to attack her rather than apologise for her appalling outbursts.

I can only hope and pray Tansy gets her commuppance in this recession as swiftly and violently and she wrongfully attacked BB.

As for me - I love a good recession. Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful as they say. And besides people knew the risks going over there ... and they get fired and hired all the time ... its not like they are getting brain cancer!

One of the Rules Of Life: Never - EVER - put anyone on "Ignore".

You need to keep an eye on everyone, just to know what they are up to.

Everyone's edgy and nervous, and although information is always welcome, a bit of tact and sensitivity is called for perhaps.

Agree, there are lay offs in all industries not just construction. Most companies are tightening their belts. ie reduction in salaries, no bonuses, business class travel suspended, mobile phone bills being monitored etc etc.

Most of us will prob be affected one way or another i guess?
